ADSLGuide Speed test won't work with Outpost 2.5

Hi,
Having installed Outpost 2.5 I am having problems running the speed test on ADSLGuide The download part of the test works OK, however no data is sent back for the upload part of the test. If I turn off Outpost and just rely on NAT router for protection then it works fine. There are no entries in the 'Blocked' log or in 'Attack detection' plugin log. Does anyone have any ideas?
Tom

Frogfoot, this is the same test that
dslrports uses and for me, I put outpost
into rules wizard and let it 'allow' once(works great)
you may want to make a rule for this application if you use alot

Re: ADSLGuide Speed test won't work with Outpost 2.5

I can't run the ADSL speed test properly myself unless I turn my router firewall down to low as the actual java applet would not load. When I was able to run the test I still could not get to the result page but found out it was to do with my internet explorer security zone settings for 'Navigate subframes across domains' the page needs this to transfer you to the results page.

Edit: I have just noticed the reply above (not the same as my problem was sorry)

I am also running in Rules wizzard and created the appropriate Allow rule. The download test works fine, However the upload part of the test does nothing, not a byte is transfered (monitoring with Port Explorer). Surely if Outpost is stopping this then there should be an entry in the log. If not then How are we expected to fine tune rules if somethings are blocked and not logged.
Note: the test works fine if I shut down outpost. If I just disable it then it still fails.
Thanks
Tom

All those test work ok, Its just the ADLSGuide one which hangs on the upload with Outpost running. Why do you think I am getting no logs?
Thanks Tom

Re: ADSLGuide Speed test won't work with Outpost 2.5

Let me pose my question in another way. What settings in Outpost will stop an internet activity but will not show up in the log file?
Thanks
Tom

Re: ADSLGuide Speed test won't work with Outpost 2.5

Can no one explain why Outpost 2.5 is blocking outgoing comunication, but is not logging any blocked ports? (or any logs eg - attack detection, active content blocked log.)

I am running a Athlon XP 3200 processor with 1G memory

Fresh install of Win XP Pro SP2, all windows updates applied.

Re: ADSLGuide Speed test won't work with Outpost 2.5

If you are not seeing traffic being listed in the blocked logs then OP is not blocking it. It's possible that your router is doing it. Having you looked in the router logs?

Look at your network connections while you are doing this test and see what the traffic is being allowed or blocked as it happens. Several connections need to be made. You need to allow speedtest.adslguide.org.uk access to ports 8080 and 8081.

A Java VM also needs to be enabled for this to work.

Why then, if Outpost is not blocking it, does the test work when I shut Outpost down?

I don't know enough about what that site is doing but try the DSL speed tests at http://www.dslreports.com/stest and see what happens.

Re: ADSLGuide Speed test won't work with Outpost 2.5

Thanks for your input Manny, However I have already run the tests on that site after a previous reply to this thread (post #5) and all worked OK. The issue is not that I can't run a speed test, I know there are many out there, but rather that Outpost seems to be blocking something and not reporting it. This seems to me to be a bug, I do not want a firewall which blocks things Secretivly, with no way to configure it so that the application will work.
Thanks again
Tom

Re: ADSLGuide Speed test won't work with Outpost 2.5

I am having exactly the same problem:

1. Yesterday using Outpost 2.1, the ADSLGuide speed test worked fine
2. Upgraded to Outpost 2.5, the ADSLGuide speed test no longer works
3. I have a friend who also upgraded recently to 2.5, the test does not work for him either
4. I have asked another friend who does not use Outpost to try it, it works
5. If i turn off Outpost, it works.

I have checked my Java settings -- Java is enabled. As per the original poster, there is NOTHING in my block logs, but clearly it is Outpost that is doing the blocking, as disabling Outpost solves the problem.

In my case, neither upload or download tests work.

I have tried creating a site-specific rule to allow ALL traffic to/from the server that ADSLGuide uses for the test, and this has no effect.

Additionally, if I put Outpost in "disable mode", to allow all traffic, the ADSLGuide speed test does NOT work; if I shut down Outpost completely, it does work.

This suggests it's something fairly low level (ie nothing to do with any of Outpost's rules).

Try disabling the DNS Cache while doing the test.
